RESIDENTS in Meirionnydd have been warned to prepare for heavy flooding this weekend.
Natural Resources Wales is asking people to be alert and prepared for flooding as heavy and persistent rain is expected over most of Wales, especially in Meirionnydd, on Saturday and Sunday (14 and 15 November).
At this stage, while there is still some uncertainty about the location and extent of the rainfall, NRW is keeping a close eye on the Dyfi and Vyrnwy catchments in particular.
The most intense rain is currently expected from Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning, which could lead to flooding in these catchments.
Natural Resources Wales will issue flood alerts and warnings if rivers reach trigger levels, and will put emergency procedures in place if required.
On Monday 9 November, swathes of Dolgellau were left underwater as the Wnion river burst its banks and flooded the Marian Mawr.
Scott Squires from Natural Resources Wales, said: “We’re asking people to take great care and to be prepared for flooding.
“Our staff will be out working today and all weekend putting measures in place to prepare for flooding, and to help reduce the impacts on people and their property.
“We advise people to keep an eye on weather reports and local news for details of any disruption in their area.”
Flood alerts and flood warnings are updated on the Natural Resources Wales’s website every 15 minutes and are available to view at www.naturalresources.wales/flooding
