THE owner of a New Quay restaurant has told how she “broke down and wept” on discovering that a life-sized model reindeer outside the business had been damaged on New Year’s Day.

Jayne Didcote, who runs the Bosun’s Locker in Glanmôr Terrace with her husband Brian, said they had both been shocked to discover the reindeer’s antlers and ears snapped off late on Friday afternoon.

“My first thought was that it just beggars belief,” Mrs Didcote, who has run the Bosun’s Locker for the past seven years, told the Cambrian News.

“To be honest, I came home and cried about it.

“Those reindeer are such a big part of Christmas here in New Quay and Brian has become known as Father Christmas. Even kids who are now teenagers still turn up to have their photos taken with the reindeer and make a donation to the charity."
