Thousands of pounds have been raised for Aberystwyth RNLI in memory of a student who died in a coastal path incident despite their efforts to save him.

Adam Dewulf-Peters, a second-year international politics student, went missing as he was walking towards Clarach.

He was located by the RNLI in the early hours of 26 January but, despite being given first aid treatment, sadly passed away.

Fellow students have paid tribute to Adam by helping to raise almost £4,500 for the local RNLI in Adam’s name, with the massive total being raised in just four days, and smashing an early target of £250. That total is still rising.

A JustGiving page set up by the Aberfess Bishops group, said Adam, who was involved in several university societies, would be missed by fellow students.

It says: “He was a loved friend, brother, son, grandson, nephew and cousin who played an important part in so many peoples’ lives.

“Adam was a second year Interpol student and an incredible guy who was well known and loved throughout the university, with involvement in Aberhike and OTC to name a few societies.

“So in his memory we would like to ask everyone to give even just £1 towards the charity, as we could make a huge difference for the RNLI as students in Aberystwyth, where they sadly get called out too often.”

The JustGiving page is available at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/aberfess-bishops.

During the search for Adam, the RNLI crew used a thermal camera donated only the week before thanks to money raised by the Aberystwyth Round Table from the fireworks display last year.

A spokesperson for Aberystwyth RNLI said the fundraising effort had left the local crew “humbled”.
