THREE members of Aberystwyth RNLI Lifeboat station who have clocked-up 145 years of service between them, have formally been recognised by the charity.
Bryan Pugh Jones, Mildred Jones and Richard Griffiths were all presented with awards to honour their service to lifesaving in a ceremony held in the council chamber of the National Library of Wales on Thursday, 23 June, after being announced in the RNLI 2016 New Year’s Honours list.
The RNLI board of trustees elected Mr Jones an Honorary Life Governor of the RNLI, the highest award the charity can give to a volunteer, in recognition of his long and devoted service to Aberystwyth RNLI.
Mr Jones served the station with distinction for 57 years as a crew member, tractor driver, station mechanic, deputy launching authority, and still remains active to this day.
Mildred Jones and her late husband Bill became volunteers at Aberystwyth Station in 1973, with Mrs Jones serving Aberystwyth branch as secretary and then treasurer to the ladies committee, before later becoming collection box secretary.
