A LONG-STANDING supporter of New Quay’s lifeboat station has been honoured with two awards.
The Stourbridge branch of the RNLI fund-raising group has close ties with New Quay RNLI, the highlight of which was its funding of the present all-weather lifeboat, the Frank and Lena Clifford of Stourbridge, launched in 1992.
And when chairman Chris Fonteyn heard that he was to receive a prestigious honorary life governorship of the RNLI and a certificate of service in recognition of his many years of dedicated fund-raising, it was his wish that the presentations be made by officials of the station at New Quay.
The presentation was attended by members of the crew, along with Alan Tomkins, chair of the lifeboat management group; Roger Couch, lifeboat operations manager and members of the fund-raising groups at New Quay and Stourbridge.
Chris Fonteyn, already an MBE in recognition of his charity work, was presented with the honorary life governorship of the RNLI by coxswain Daniel Potter and a certificate of service by deputy launch authority Roger Davies.
