AN ABERYSTWYTH road will be closed for five days while resurfacing work takes place, leaving commuters having to make a long detour.
Slow-moving traffic in rush-hour is expected as the work, which will run from today Monday, 24 October to Saturday, 28 October, closes the Waunfawr road from the A487 junction at the top of Penglais Hill to just before the entrance of Maesceinion.
The resurfacing work has been scheduled for the half-term holidays to minimise impact on pupils and staff.
Cefn Llan has also been closed towards the Waunfawr junction opposite the entrance to Aberystwyth University, with signs warning that the road ahead is closed.
The section of road on Cefn Llan was closed for five days at the same time last year during half-term to install new safety measures between the rear entrance to the school and the entrance to the Brynamlwg club.
The Waunfawr road has been closed several times over recent years, including for junction widening at the A487 joining Penglais Hill and work at the junction with Cefn Llan to install safety measures.
Due to the drop-off points for Penglais school accessed by Waunfawr and Cefn Llan - work on the road system has usually taken place during school holidays.
Mid Wales Travel, which drops off and picks up passengers at two of the bus stops on the closed road, said that passengers should expect delays as bus get re-routed, and apologised for the inconvenience that was “outside of its control”.
The road closure at Waunfawr will be enforced from 7.30am to 6pm every day until Saturday while work is completed.
