A DRIVE to support a charity that helps bring football kits and boots to children across Africa will see an old Penrhyncoch FC kit find its way to the continent.

Throughout August, Penrhyncoch FC is supporting the Boots2Africa initiative which aims to improve life chances for children in Africa through donations of boots, kits and accessories.

On Friday, ahead of preparations for the Roosters’ incredible win over Welsh football powerhouses The New Saints in the Welsh League Cup second round, Kevin Jenkins from Penrhyncoch FC got the ball rolling by donating a full team strip, used by the club a few seasons ago.

It was the first of what the club hopes to be many donations for the cause.

Organiser Neil Davies said: “It is amazing to think this very kit will be worn with pride by a team playing in Africa.”

“It might help inspire some footballers to start an academy, as happened with my team Hereford FC in Sierra Leone.

“Amazing things do happen if we just try.”

Mr Davies said that drop-off points will be arranged in Penrhyncoch for people to donate unwanted or unused good clean football kit “to share a little of our Welsh kindness with Africa.”

The Boots2Africa initiative was formed a little under five years and has shipped thousands of football boots and kit to Africa since then.

Boots2Africa collects and supports sustainable beneficiary organisations such as football and rugby academies, schools, charities and community projects with the supply of donated boots, kits and accessories.
