ABERYSTWYTH’S streets continue to be blighted by strewn rubbish during the peak tourist season.
After it was reported in the Cambrian News earlier this month that businesses in the town claimed the problem of strewn rubbish was “not an isolated incident”, the council again dismissed calls for seagull-proof containers to be introduced.
This week, the Cambrian News has been sent more pictures showing the streets of Aberystwyth awash with rubbish, apparently strewn by seagulls.
The pictures, captured between 7am and 8am on Tuesday, 8 August, were sent to us by hotelier John Evans, owner of Yr Hafod Guest House, on South Marine Terrace.
Mr Evans has made numerous calls to resolve the problem, including tighter regulation of town centre HMO landlords, and the introduction of seagull-proof bags in the town.
As part of the Cambrian News’ Keep Aber Tidy campaign, we are asking you to send us your pictures of any environmental problems you encounter in Aberystwyth, including details of where and when they were taken.
These can be sent by email to [email protected], with ‘Keep Aber Tidy’ written in the subject field; or they can be sent by post to Caleb Spencer, Cambrian News, 7 Science Park, Aberystwyth SY23 3AH.
A Ceredigion County Council spokesperson said: “As part of Caru Ceredigion, members of the public are encouraged to present their waste in the right way and on the right day which in-themselves would significantly reduce if not eradicate the incidence of these issues. Thankfully the vast majority of people in Ceredigion make good and proper use of the services provided for them as they, like the county council, value and respect the local environment."
