REVELLERS at Ynyslas Beach who used safety signs as firewood and left broken glass for other beachgoers to tread on, had a rude awakening on Bank Holiday Monday.
Staff at Dyfi Ynyslas Nature Reserve said they were joined by police in waking up a group of young adults who had spent the night partying at the popular beach, after finding vandalised safety signs and hazardous litter alongside their parked vehicles.
Ali Chedgy, who manages the reserve for Natural Resources Wales, said: “Yesterday morning a group of young adults, who had decided to spend the night partying on the reserve, were woken up by our reserve staff and Dyfed-Powys Police.
“Their vehicles were parked alongside a hazard to today’s beachgoers, in the form of a hastily smothered fire; a thin layer of sand hiding hot ash, broken glass and other sharp debris.
“If the remains are anything to go by, they had an absolutely smashing time. Sadly they chose to fuel their beach fires with firewood scavenged from the site. This fuel — marker posts and public safety signs — was ripped up and vandalised from around the nature reserve.
“Under the watchful eye of the police and the reserve manager, they removed their litter, tents and then themselves from the reserve, and the fire debris has since been cleared up by the reserve staff."
