PWLLHELI Rugby Club held a celebration game over the weekend to remember one of their former players who died in a tragic incident in China.

Robin Llyr Evans, a former Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor student, was only 21 years old when he wdied in Wuhan in September.

Robin had been travelling around the world with sports technology company Hawk-Eye and had been in Wuhan for a major tennis tournament, with Hawk-Eye being responsible for the specialist technology used to determine whether a ball crosses a line.

The ex-Ysgol Botwnnog student was the former captain of the Pwllheli Youth Team and the club decided to hold an event to remember him on Sunday and to celebrate his life.

The event raised funds towards Cronfa Robin, as well as the Wales Air Ambulance and Alaw Ward at Ysbyty Gwynedd.

Pwllheli Rugby Club chairman Wil Martin said: “It’s important to remember Robin and when we think of him we must always remember he had a smile on his face all the time, which is why we called it a celebration game.

“He was a very kind and courteous young man and I never heard him say a bad word about anyone.

“The club wishes to thank all who supported the event. We hope that the turnout of friends and family will have been some solace to Robin’s parents and family.”
