Madam,

Having friends over on their first visit to this part of the country and taking them on a lovely walk down the promenade and main streets was supposed to be to show off our choice of residing in the area for more than 35 years.

I have to say it didn’t take long to come to the conclusion it is now not an attractive proposition. What a mess ‘almost’ everywhere. Why, oh why, why can’t the council keep on top of the debris on the promenade.

They know it happens every year. Surely there are specialist machines to blow the stuff back onto the beach until a permanent fixture is built to contain it.

Tragic as it is, the fire site is an eyesore in itself, plus there are lots of tatty buildings(scaffolding etc). No way is all this going to be rectified in time for the oncoming holiday season.

I am both sad and ashamed and can’t see any holidaymakers having the notion it’s a grand place to be. I know our visitors were less than impressed.

Yours etc, Jane Fazakerley, New Cross, Aberystwyth.
