Editor,
Covid Inquiry, medical hubs, NHS wage settlement, the scapegoaters are sensing blood but typically blind to the financial realities. Mark Drakeford was quite succinct, the grant from Central (Conservative) Government, is sufficient to pay for 1 per cent NHS wage increase, but not the additional 2 per cent awarded by the Pay Review Body, and certainly not any thing higher, as demanded by Rhun ap Iorwerth MS, and doubtless endorsed by the Welsh Tories.
The UK Conservative Government has long transferred implementation of swathes of policy decisions to the regions, but relentlessly reduced the central grant funding, only too happy to then see regional government take the electoral blame. However, when Welsh Labour demands that Justice be devolved, presumably to then escape the chaotic UK court system, the Welsh Conservatives scream ‘power grab’.
