CAPEL Bangor’s Ysgol Penllwyn is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year with a host of special events.

Former pupils and staff are invited to attend an afternoon tea on Tuesday, 28 February, between 1pm and 5pm to share their memories of their time at the school.

Other events will include pupils making a short film about the school’s history, writing a collection of stories with local author Caryl Lewis, as well as having a 1960s day where youngsters will experience what a day in the school was like when it first opened.

Head teacher Catryn Lawrence said the afternoon tea would help youngsters learn more about the school’s history.

She said: “We intend to hold an afternoon tea on 28 February as part of a project to enhance children’s literacy and digital competency.

“We have invited, and extend an invitation, to former pupils and staff to come to the school so that they can share their experiences and memories of the school.

“Pupils have been busy preparing questionnaires and electronic databases and look forward to interviewing guests during the afternoon.

“We hope to use the information we have collected to create a short film about the school’s history with video footage taken on the day in our newly developed green screen area."

Meanwhile, the school has called on Cambrian News readers to see if they recognise any of the faces of pupils from the school when it first opened in 1967.

The picture (seen above), sent in by the school, shows pupils from a number of different classes in 1967.
