An Aberystwyth-based music project is offering home-schooling children the chance to learn at the school of rock for free.

The Rock Project, which has a base in Aberystwyth, is holding free virtual music lessons for children across the country.

The Rock Project, which usually provides music tuition for children in Aberystwyth as well as across the UK and Ireland, “put their heads together” on how they could continue to support the youth of the UK and beyond during lockdown.

From Monday, 18 January, the team started providing free “bite-sized” lessons in guitar, bass, drums and vocals, in addition to their usual F2F and virtual sessions.

Lisa Wordley, proprietor of The Rock Project Shrewsbury & Mid Wales, said: “As a musician myself, it’s been great to have an outlet that enables me to continue playing with other musicians and it is still very rewarding seeing the students developing and interacting with each other.

“Whilst virtual gigs will never replace live ones, the students have all adapted amazingly to online learning and as a team we’ve all become very inventive in how we can still achieve a very ‘gig like’ atmosphere using online resources.

“We’ve got a good balance of fun and learning so if there’s anyone out there who would like to join us, just contact me at [email protected] or on 07533 417768.”
