A GROUP of Scouts from Aberystwyth have been selected to represent the UK at a life-changing event for over 40,000 young people in the USA.

Matthew Sharples, Jonathan Snelling, Holly Davis, Catrin Pink and Alice Davis have been chosen to be part of a team delivering the World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia next summer.

They will work with Scouts from nearly every country in the world to share life skills and deliver this life-changing event.

Held only every four years, a World Scout Jamboree is an opportunity young people in Scouting only get once.

The World Scout Jamboree brings together 45,000 Scouts from across the world to experience international cultures and celebrate the Scouting principle: to create a better world.

Matthew, 24, said: “I’m just looking forward to having a Jamboree experience and being part of the atmosphere of the whole thing.

“It’s probably the biggest Jamboree to date and in a part of America I have always wanted to explore.

“All the activities seem very Scouty and adventurous which I will be eager to try, especially the high ropes. I’m hoping I can pick up skills from different cultures from the different Scouts.”

Jonathan said: “This is going to be my first World Scout Jamboree as an adult supporter and I am very much looking forward to going to help out young people from across the world and teaching them skills for life.

“I was a participant at the 2007 World Scout Jamboree held in the UK to help to celebrate Scouting’s centenary and I loved it.

“I manage and support 18 to 25-year-old Scouts from across Aberystwyth and want to tell them all about my adventures.”
