New Quay-based shanty group Three Sheets to the Wind will be singing at St Ina’s Church, Llanina, tomorrow to help put secondary breast cancer first.

Tickets for the performance, which starts at 6.30pm, are £5 on the door, and all proceeds will go to the charity Secondary1st, set up in memory of women who have died of secondary breast cancer.

In 2018, their first full year, Three Sheets to the Wind raised £6,000 for charities including the Wales Air Ambulance and the RNLI.

This year they have already raised over £800 for the Wales Air Ambulance and smaller sums for Epilepsy UK and the RNLI.

The group mainly perform sea shanties, along with work songs such as The Jovial Collier and folk songs in English and Welsh.

They also have new songs written for them. One, The Call to Sea, is a tribute to the volunteers of the New Quay lifeboat with words by group member Karen Watkins.

Three Sheets to the Wind hold weekly practice sessions at the Penrhiwllan Inn, Church Road, New Quay from 7.30pm to 9.30pm on Thursday evenings throughout the year.
