WALES YFC and the National Trust Eryri are beginning the search for the fourth Llyndy Isaf Scholar.

Llyndy Isaf is a 614 acre upland livestock unit in the Nant Gwynant Valley. The partnership between Wales YFC and the National Trust Eryri gives one lucky YFC member the chance to live on and run the farm for a whole year. Applications for the fourth scholar open on Monday 21st March and will close on Friday 6 May.

The Llyndy Isaf Scholarship will give someone the opportunity to become skilled at decision-making, business management, and animal husbandry by running a working upland farm. YFC members aged 18 to 26 are encouraged to apply for this fantastic opportunity to help them take a step onto the farming ladder.

The scholar will receive a salary of circa £17,934 as well as being responsible for the farm budget. Accommodation and a farm vehicle are also provided as part of the package.

Wales YFC and National Trust Eryri will be hosting two open days at Llyndy Isaf for members and friends to visit the farm to view the landscape and facilities, and to speak to National Trust Staff including the current scholar, Owain Jones to learn more about the opportunity.

The initiative will provide the successful candidate with the opportunities to develop personal skills in areas such as stock management, business skills, self-confidence including public speaking, and practical work through a series of formal and informal training and work experience.

The scholar will also have the opportunity to work in other National Trust departments and locations including the neighbouring farm, Hafod y Llan. The Hafod y Llan farm manager, Arwyn Owen and shepherd Elgan Jones will also act as mentors to the scholar to provide advice, support and guidance.

“This is a unique opportunity for a Wales YFC member to live and work in the Snowdonia National Park. The scholarship is now in its fourth year and has benefitted from three excellent scholars in its infancy.

"It is pleasing to see each scholar develop excellent agricultural skills and to follow them on their journey after leaving Llyndy Isaf,” said Carys Vaughan, Wales YFC Rural Affairs Chairman.
