Aberystwyth Town’s club captain has raised thousands of pounds for the NHS in Wales.
Marc Williams, who captains the Seasiders in the JD Cymru Premier, started a JustGiving appeal hoping to raise £4,000 money for the NHS.
Marc says he is hoping players, staff and supporters across Welsh football will donate.
After consulting with coaches and captains of clubs across Wales and receiving support for his idea, Marc launched his fundraiser this week and he has already smashed his initial £4,000 target, raising over £4,600, at the time of writing.
Airbus UK Broughton and Barry Town United donated over £400 each from their playing and coaching staff.
The money raised will be split between the seven local health board charitable funds in Wales to fund extra items that go over and above what the NHS is already providing at this very challenging time.
Marc said: “These are very difficult times for everybody and we’re massively indebted to our key workers across Wales who are doing everything they can to keep us safe and well in these testing times.
“Having spoken to clubs across Wales, I’ve decided to set up a fundraising page to collect donations towards NHS Wales which players, staff and supporters of the game in Wales can come together and donate whatever they can afford towards our health service who need our support more than ever right now.
“We are all immensely proud of and grateful to our health service here in Wales, and hopefully this fundraising can represent an opportunity for the Welsh football family to come together and say thank you to them for their lifesaving work.”
