This week, the readers of the Cambrian News will be voting in the Senedd Election on Thursday, May 6th.
In the Mid Wales and West Region, it’s obvious that Plaid are going to enjoy sweeping success again in the three constituency seats they hold here.
But that very fact means that they are highly unlikely to win any of the additional list seats in the region.
So, we are asking people to cast their second vote for GWLAD - a newly formed Welsh party, which takes a pragmatic and grounded approach to building Wales up to prepare for Independence.
With GWLAD members in the Senedd, the emphasis will be on developing the economy, encouraging entrepreneurship and laying the proper foundations so that Independence, when it eventually arrives, can be a success for Wales and her people.
As a party, we have decided to work in parallel with Plaid in a sense, in so much that we haven’t put up candidates in the constituency seats that they currently hold.
This is a mature, grown up way of doing politics, and I think the public will be quite receptive to the idea of a party which seeks to work creatively with other parties, rather than resort to the tired old slagging each other off approach which most people find so tiresome by now.
We are obviously hoping that many Plaid voters will recognise this fact and decide to cast their second vote for GWLAD on Thursday.
But we also think there are many voters who habitually vote Labour, Tory or Lib Dems, who could be persuaded to give their second vote to Gwlad, as a party standing for the Welsh national interest.
Many of these people couldn’t give that second vote to Plaid because of history and political tribalism- but they may just decide to give it to a new nationalist party for a change, especially at a time when all the traditional parties are so disliked in general.
Therefore we are encouraging these voters to think of the second vote as an opportunity to vote for Wales, over and above any single party as such.
Thinking about the need for change in Wales?
That will be GWLAD then.
