Editor,
At approximately 9.15am on Tuesday, 19 November, I was walking towards Iceland, Aberystwyth, on the pavement through the car park with my disability walker when a small, but long, grey bus passed me, backed up and parked just ahead of me with its back part taking up the whole width of the pavement!
Two women with a buggy were coming towards me and we were forced to step off the pavement to get past the bus. The driver could not have failed to see us before he parked. There was ample parking space at that time, including for larger vehicles. A woman who had seen what happened came up and remonstrated with the driver, who seemed as if he couldn’t care less – she did get him to move the bus to a suitable place though.
I am a disabled pensioner and the car park was fairly empty. If this sort of thing is going to be allowed, what happens if it involves someone more disabled than me, someone with a wheelchair of disabled scooter or who is visually impaired? Maybe a parent with a buggy and young children, especially if the car park is busy?
This was not a matter of a vehicle overlapping a bit of pavement, it was occupying the whole width of the pavement in selfish disregard of pedestrians and I feel this behaviour should be stopped before someone is injured.
