“SELFISH” motorists have been urged to help mothers pushing prams and people with mobility issues by not blocking dropped kerbs in Aberystwyth.
Cllr Mark Strong said he had campaigned to get dropped kerbs put in place in Aberystwyth but has recently seen several motorists parking in front of them.
He said: “I’ve recently got dropped kerbs outside Llys Hen Ysgol, which I suppose in itself is no big thing for a lot of people.
“However, for some people it is, it helps their mobility. What really irritates me is when people park in front of these dropped kerbs. It is really selfish and can cause difficulty for people."
In Cardigan, a ‘problematic’ dropped kerb on a housing estate has been moved by Ceredigion County Council workmen following a request by Cllr Mark Cole.
Cllr Cole said he had been approached by local residents who complained that the kerb - outside No 4 Bro Teifi – presented difficulties for those with mobility aids as it was positioned right next to a man-hole cover.
The local authority has now moved the kerb and residents are said to be really pleased with the change.
A Ceredigion Council spokesperson said: “Efforts are made through the council’s Caru Ceredigion initiative to raise awareness of the problems caused by irresponsible and illegal parking, which can cause particular difficulties for those with mobility issues and those pushing prams.”
