I have every sympathy with the fishermen of Aberdyfi and Aberystwyth, and elsewhere: their job is hard work in awful conditions, with a variable and insecure return. However, the view in the article in last week’s front page (Meirionnydd edition) is very blinkered.
If their market in Europe is shut overnight, then put their produce on the local market instead of the imported stuff that is so prevalent. I would rather eat local fresh produce than foreign that has cost more carbon to transport and sat around so it is no longer really ‘fresh’.
If the imports are continuing, then so would the exports, but it is better for all of us if we all buy local, to support our communities and reduce unnecessary travel and infection risks.
• As the question has been raised, could I ask you to point out to all readers, that visiting of family who are currently in hospital should not occur, unless it is to collect them to take home to your own house.
All visiting of friends and family in hospital should have been stopped completely.
They may miss you, but better neither of you get any iller!
Please use mobile phones instead.
