A BISHOP has led a service at a Machynlleth church to mark the completion of £500,000 of works, which have been 15 years in the making.

Leading a service of Thanksgiving at St Peter’s Church on Sunday afternoon, the Bishop of Bangor, the Right Reverend Andy John, paid tribute to the vicar of Machynlleth, Rev Canon Kathleen Rogers, and her congregation for their vision and focus since the idea to renovate the church was formed 15 years ago.

The service follows more than two years of building work and restoration, including a new mezzanine room, kitchen, toilets, lift and staircase at the west end of the building; a new church office and welcome area at the back of the church; and a new sound system and internal redecoration.

The works have cost almost £500,000 and were made possible because of the Big Lottery Fund, the Garfield Weston Foundation, the All Churches Trust, the Diocese of Bangor’s W.G Roberts Trust, and other smaller grants as well as the gifts and time of many local people.
