Madam,

I read with dismay the news that Llanbedr bypass will be delayed due to a flaw in the due process of the planning application.

I read the apology given to the applicant Gwynedd Council by the Snowdonia National Park planning officer Johnathan Crawley.

However is an apology enough in this matter? Whose responsibility was it to ensure the process was thorough and without flaw so as not to have it challenged in court?

How serious is the mistake in this matter given the costs that might now well be incurred by the council?

Reading the article it seems there may well now be serious doubt that funding for the bypass will be available. If one reads between the lines this would seem to be due to the fact that this project was to be funded by the EU.

I may be incorrect in assuming this fact is correct, but it would seem to be the case. So much is dependent economically on the enterprise airfield having decent access and elimination of the traffic congestion at times of the year, mainly summer and holiday periods.

Also the local population was looking forward to this major traffic problem finally being eliminated.

Should someone in authority in the relevant department face some serious scrutiny and action for what would appear to be an error leading to this serious delay, even possible loss of this essential local infrastructure improvement? I believe it is a question many many people will be asking in the local area, in Gwynedd Council and in the Welsh Government.

Are there still serious questions to ask regarding this bombshell of disappointing news and potentially seriously damaging news to the local economy?

Whose responsibility actually was it to ensure the planning process was done correctly and what responsibility is that person going to take for it?

Whilst I am not looking to be vindictive or intent on any witchhunt, surely someone has to be accountable?

Yours etc, Adrian Evans, Llanbedr.
