A BALA teenager will be singing her heart out for a prestigious scholarship.

Glain Rhys, 19, will be giving it her all on Friday, 12 October when she competes for the prestigious Urdd Gobaith Cymru Bryn Terfel Scholarship 2018.

Glain was chosen as part of a group of six of the most promising competitiors at the Urdd Eisteddfod Brecon and Radnorshire this year.

They will all perform in a special concert at the Pavillion, Llandrindod Wells, for the honour of winning the scholarship, which includes a £4,000 cash prize.

The competition will be broadcast on S4C on Saturday, 13 October.

Hailing from the Penllyn area of Meirionnydd, Glain is about to start an MA in Musical Theatre at the Royal College of Music and Drama in Cardiff.

She graduated with a 1st class degree from University of Wales Trinity St David’s after two years studying a Performance BA.

She is a multi-talented singer and in July 2018 she launched her first album and is currently busy gigging across Wales. Glain aims to continue with her singing and composing with the ambition of reaching the West End stage one day.

Emyr Lloyd Jones, from Bontnewydd near Caernarfon, will also be representing Gwynedd.

The aim of the prize, established in 1999, is to nurture some of Wales’ best young performing talent.
