THE GRIEVING sister of a teenager who tragically lost his life at the weekend is asking for an urgent meeting with Gwynedd Council in a bid to get lifeguards on beaches.
On Saturday morning the family of 16-year-old Blake Ward had to make the tragic decision to turn off his life support machine after he got into difficulty in the sea off Tywyn on Tuesday last week.
His death is the fourth involving the Meirionnydd shoreline since July 2015.
According to an official RNLI report, the county council had already been urged to install lifeguards on Tywyn Beach as far back as 2014.
Blake’s sister Libbie Sullivan, 20, has now called for immediate action from Gwynedd Council and has requested to meet the officials responsible for maritime safety.
“Following Blake’s death I would like to meet with Gwynedd Council to push for more sea safety awareness and lifeguards on their beaches,” she told the Cambrian News.
“If anything good can come from our tragic baby boy’s death, it’s that we need to campaign to get the help we need on our beaches.
Libbie paid tribute to her brother, saying: “Blake our bright-eyed beautiful boy was there to help anyone always putting everyone else before himself, he was such an innocent sweet 16-year-old.
“I personally would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to everyone involved in helping rescue Blake from the sea - the doctors, paramedics, volunteers for all their hard work on Blake.
“I will be forever in your debt.”
The childhood sweetheart of Blake, Stephanie Ray, has also paid an emotional tribute.
