TWO Porthmadog sisters whose father has been diagnosed with terminal cancer are shaving their heads to raise funds for charity.
Dawn-Louise Jones, 40 and her sister Corina Jones, 37, will be taking on Macmillan Cancer Support’s ‘Brave the Shave’ this weekend at Porthmadog Football Club.
The sisters hope to raise over £1,000 to thank the charity for their support since their father, Colin Birks, 70, was diagnosed with cancer of unknown primary (CUP) last year.
Dawn told the Cambrian News she cannot thank the cancer charity enough for the support they have provided the family during this difficult time.
She said: “Cancer affects so many people’s lives and when my dad was first diagnosed he was told he only had three months to live, but thankfully he is still with us.
“He opted to go through 13 rounds of radiotherapy to help prolong his life and luckily he is still with us, but he is declining quickly.
“If it hadn’t been for Macmillan Cancer Support I don’t know what we’d have done.”
The mother-of-six says she is extremely nervous about the upcoming big shave, but has received support from her children to give her the confidence to go through with it.
“We wanted this to be a real family night so we hope everyone comes down and supports us during the big shave and also help us raise a great sum for charity,” added Dawn.
The fund-raiser will be held on Saturday, 30 July at 7pm at Porthmadog Football Club.
