Madam,

Re your front-page story, ‘Traders call for parking restrictions’ (Aberystwyth edition, Cambrian News, 9 March), there was a quote from Lloyd Edwards, a prospective candidate in the forthcoming May county council elections for Penparcau.

As an elected member for Penparcau, I have been engaged with Mike Daniels at the council, as there have been concerns with regard to the parking and also road safety issues there at various times, because of large delivery lorries servicing local businesses in this area.

I have already addressed these parking issues with the Traffic Management Department and have requested a site meeting as soon as is possible prior to the Traffic Review, so that officers can meet with the local business proprietors and with the residents who also use this area for their cars on this extremely busy trunk road.

It is paramount that urgent consideration is given to support the smaller business proprietors of Penparcau, who provide an invaluable service to the local residents, surrounding communities and their many customers.

Also confirmed is the site meeting which I requested to address the Rhydybont car parking issues and to meet with the residents who have recently voiced their frustrations.

Yours etc
