Madam,

Re Public toilets in Aberystwyth.

I read with interest on the issue of consultation on local toilet strategy. I recall a similar situation during the Ted Heath government that there was circulation of instruction to national health staff through their various departmental officers of the need to economise on all toilet material and cleaning services.

I was acting NUPE representative for staff employed in the Steam Generating Plant at Bronglais Hospital, who had their own hygiene facilities. The nature of the work required adequate supply of cleaning materials and toiletries. These words came to mind that were sent to the appropriate official:

This cabin and the abolution,

is sure the best within the nation.

So please continue with –

the brush, the bucket and mop utensils thus,

To maintain a service is our aim

Lest we fail to pull the chain.

If such conditions come about

the entire compound will be stunk out.

There were at least six public toilets in Aberystwyth inclusive of Trefechan, not today.
