A fundraising page set up to raise money to build a new skatepark in Tywyn has raised £580 so far.

There are just five days left to donate to the crowdfunder page to give the park, which is currently closed because it needs refurbishment, a new lease of life.

Kelly Ashfield’s son Tom enjoys using the park. She told the Cambrian News Tom is a big fan of the park and was “gutted” to find it closed.

She said: “Tywyn is one of my son’s favourite outdoor skateparks, so when we turned up and saw it had been shut off he was gutted.

“We feel it’s so important for the kids that this reopens as soon as possible. It gives the kids something to do and is a great sport.

“Surely it’s better for our kids to be riding skateparks rather than walking the streets.

“Tywyn skatepark has always been a pleasure to visit and it was so sad to see it deserted.”

Tom uses the park a lot, especially during the summer, and he said he will be sad if the park doesn’t reopen.

He said: “Riding is a massive part of my life.

“Everywhere I go, my scooter comes with me. Tywyn skatepark is great. Yeah, it needs some work, but overall it’s a great park. Every summer I spend a lot of time there meeting friends and meeting new people.

“Everyone is always so welcoming. Tywyn park is fun and the ramps feel good to ride."

Tywyn town councillor Marisa O’Hara, who set up the fundraising page, said: “It’s important to stress that this needs as much support as possible. It is extremely popular and with the new plans I anticipate it will only get more so, but we need town, villages, locals and holidaymakers alike to support it. A pound is a step in the right direction.”
