Police have thanked people for their patience after two train carriages were transported by road this morning.

North Wales Police issued a warning to people to expect delays as the two carriages were being transported into Barmouth.

The carriages, travelling in convoy, were taken into the town on the A496.

A police spokesperson said: “Please be aware that a wide load movement (two railway carriages travelling in convoy) will be heading along the A496 into Barmouth at approximately 11am.

“This movement will be escorted by police officers.

“Delays are expected so please avoid the area.

“Thanks in advance for your patience.”

This afternoon, North Wales Police Roads Policing Unit thanked the public, saying: “Both train carriages have now been delivered safely to Barmouth.

“Thanks to everyone in the town for their patience and understanding - some great, skilful driving here by the haulage company.”
