A weekend of live music and events will take place at the Hafod Estate in a bid to boost tourism to the area.
The weekend, which consists of Music in the Marquee on Saturday, 11 May, and a Spring Fête on the Sunday, will see a variety of local musicians coming together to support and promote the area.
Tanya Friswell, tourism development officer for the community organisation Pentir Pumlumon, said the Hafod weekend “ticks a lot of boxes” for the group.
“Pentir Pumlumon is a non-profit making group seeking to develop and improve our local communities, and, in tandem, tourism,” Tanya explained.
“We went to the Hafod Trust to see if they would be open to having some sort of event in Mrs Johnes’ Flower Garden. They said yes!
“After discussion, it was decided to have a Spring Fête on Sunday, 12 May, and to make use of the marquee by having a gig on Saturday night.
“The Hafod Trust applied to Cefncroes Windfarm Trust for a grant, and were successful in getting enough money to get the project off the ground. The aim is to get more people to discover the Hafod Estate, locals and visitors alike.
"Social media interest has been phenomenal, so it would seem that we have somehow captured the imagination of all types of different people.
“On Sunday we have 40 market stalls – artisan food and drink producers, artists, crafters, etc – a really eclectic mixture of products.
“We have nine organisations attending who want to promote their work and offer information on their projects. We have five hot food sellers, and even a gin and fizz bar. There is a face painter and a lady teaching aerial yoga.
“From midday onwards we have a full afternoon of entertainment from Sgarmes, The Trilbies, Four Bonestet, Plascrug School Choir and Aber Silver Band.
“The Hornettes and The Hicksters entertain us on the Saturday night and Chris Jones, the S4C weatherman, will be the compère for the evening. Music starts at 7pm. Doors open 6pm.”
Tanya, whose role is funded by Cynnal y Cardi, added: “People are interested in discovering new experiences, and this will certainly be something new. The garden is such a beautiful, magical place, and I’m really proud and excited to be part of this brand new event.”
