On Sunday, 10 February, close to Valentine’s Day, a memorable evening of musical romance will take place in Pennal Church, the proceeds of which will be donated to charity.
Stephanie Windsor-Lewis and Alessandro Cortello make a very welcome return with a concert of operatic and other music from Naples - city of love and music.
Stephanie and Alessandro sang in Pennal Church just over a year ago in a concert which was acclaimed by the considerable audience.
Since then they have both been involved in concerts and stage productions throughout the country, but look forward to a return to their first UK duet venue.
After studies at the Benjamin Britten International Opera School and the Royal College of Music, Stephanie completed her studies at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Florentino and the Teatro Comunale di Bologna.
She has won first prize in the Benvenuto Franci competition, and the Premio Crescendo competition in Florence.
Stephanie has understudied at the New York Metropolitan and this year at Glyndebourne, has sung with major opera companies in Florence, Bologna, and Venice, and has recently had major roles with the English National Opera in Madame Butterfly and Partenope.
She has been the soloist in concerts throughout Europe including Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem and Vivaldi’s Gloria at the Royal Albert Hall.
Now settled in Pennal with husband Dr Tom, son Jack, and recently arrived daughter Emilia, Stephanie also does a considerable amount of teaching.
Alessandro started his studies in piano and singing in Venice and graduated in both at Ferrara and in Udine.
As a singer he has had major roles in most of the well-known operas, and sang with Placido Domingo on Italian TV in Rigoletto.
He has also specialised as a Chamber music singer, performing Schubert’s and Schumann’s most important Lieder cycles, accompanied by the leading Italian pianists.
As a concert singer he has sung solos in Mozart’s Requiem in Venice, Haydn’s Mass in the Time of War and Orff’s Carmina Burana and many others in concerts throughout Italy and in Austria, Croatia, Russia and the Czech Republic.
He is now successfully exploring the UK concert scene.
Richard Lingard also makes a welcome return from Liverpool once again to accompany them.
The concert is at 5pm. Mulled wine and refreshments will be available in the interval.
Tickets are available from the church, by calling 01654 702121, from Glan yr Afon, Pennal and at the door on the night.
The evening will be supporting the North Wales Emergency Doctor Service.
