ABERYSTWYTH’S lifeboat crew has received a helping hand from the town’s Tesco superstore.
Store colleagues welcomed local RNLI volunteers into the shop to select enough food to fill the lifeboat station’s kitchen cupboards for the next few weeks. The store has also donated a microwave, to ensure the volunteers have time to cook and eat to regain energy, even if they only have just a few spare minutes.
The donations are part of the Park Avenue store’s commitment to support local community groups and organisations.
Paul McCann, RNLI press officer, said: “The crew members are very grateful for the generous donation of long-life products to the station. After a long search during a cold wet windy night, or after a hard training session, the volunteer crew members really appreciate being able to get a brew on and grab something to eat as soon as they get back to the station. The donation from Tesco should last us a few months and its really appreciated by all at the station.”
Christian Davies, store manager at the Park Avenue shop, added: “We are delighted to support the RNLI in a way that directly helps those that volunteer at the station. They provide lifesaving services and we are glad we could give products that will be used by all members at the station.”
