ABERPORTH’S ‘rock of ages’ has been cut down to size by the power of Storm Brian.

A huge chunk of rock has sheared off the top of iconic landmark Carreg Bica on Dyffryn Beach.

Generations of youngsters have clambered over the distinctive stack which local youngsters nicknamed ‘The Pyramid’ because of its distinctive shape.

But a series of shots snapped by local photographer Emyr Rhys Williams this week show Carreg Bica is not quite the rock it used to be...

“A big chunk of about four feet has come away from the top,” he said.

“I’m told it happened at the height of Storm Brian.”

So Carreg Bica which in the past posed quite a challenge to daring youngsters endeavouring to scale its steep sides to its conical summit now has a flat top!

Local county councillor Gethin Davies confirmed the stack had been “flattened”.

He added: “It’s come as quite a shock because that rock is an iconic part of our coastline.

“But we will always experience coastal erosion as a result of fierce storms and nothing lasts forever. If we moved the clock back 300 years the rocks we see today would have a very different appearance.”
