Up to 12cm of rain could fall this weekend as forecasters upgrade their weather warning to amber as Storm Dennis approaches.
All of Mid Wales is now covered by the amber warning for heavy rain from midday Saturday until 3pm Sunday, with a yellow warning for rain and heavy winds also in place for the whole of Wales as Storm Dennis sweeps over the country.
Upgrading the weather warning this morning, the Met Office said: "Spells of heavy and prolonged rain are expected to affect parts of Wales over the weekend with a higher likelihood of impacts now expected in some areas.
"Around 20-40mm of rain will fall widely with 50-80mm likely.
"Over the higher ground of Wales 100-120mm of rain is possible in a few locations. This rain is expected to fall across areas already wet from recent rainfall."
Gusts of 50mph inland and as high as 70mph along the west coast are also expected.
This could result in delays to road, air, rail and ferry transport, as well as problems for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges.
Power cuts and disruption to other services are also likely.
