STORM Doris looks set to cause major disruption in Ceredigion, Montgomeryshire and Gwynedd tomorrow as forecasters warn of 80mph winds, heavy rain, and even snow.

And there is also a flood alert in place for the River Dyfi tonight.

The Met Office issued the amber — be prepared — warning this morning, valid from 6am tomorrow, which warns of gusts of between 70 and 80mph on the coastline and in the hills.

People are also being warned that the winds could pose a danger to life due to the likelihood of flying debris.

The Met Office warning states: “Whilst the strongest winds look to be only short-lived, damage to structures, interruptions to power supplies and widespread disruption to travel networks are likely, with a danger of injury from flying debris.

“Trees are also likely to be damaged or blown over.

“Heavy rain is also likely through Thursday as well as some snow over high ground as the system clears eastwards. These may prove additional hazards.”

With a 3.9m high tide in Aberystwyth at just after 6am on Thursday, and again at 6.20pm, there is the potential for some coastal flooding.

Natural Resources Wales have issued a flood alert for the River Dyfi, from Dinas Mawddwy and Llanbrynmair to the mouth of the estuary, including Machynlleth, due to “above normal” river levels.
