FORECASTERS have issued an amber warning for high winds today that could pose a ’danger to life’.

The west coast is set to see hurricane-force winds of up to 80mph with forecasters at the Met Office warning that it could pose a danger to life as well as bringing travel chaos, power cuts and a loss of mobile phone coverage.

The warning has been upgraded from yellow to amber this morning, with the Chief Forecaster saying: "Flying debris is likely, such as tiles blown from roofs, as well as large waves around coastal districts with beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and properties.

"This leads to the potential for injuries and danger to life."

The weather warning is set to run from midday to midnight, with the strongest winds expected around 6-7pm this evening.

On Twitter, North Wales Police said: "Extremely high winds are expected in the #NorthWales area later on. Please keep an eye on the weather forecast throughout the day #staysafe"
