STUDENTS at Glynllifon have taken part in a specialised course warning on the dangers facing farmers.

The Farm Safety Foundation ran a unique Introduction to Farm Safety Workshop for around 60 students studying Agriculture and Forestry at Glynllifon recently.

Farming is one of the UK’s most hazardous industries, with 1.5 per cent of workers being employed in the industry but accounting for 15-20 per cent of worker fatalities.

With this in mind, the Farm Safety Foundation was set up by NFU Mutual to raise awareness of farm safety amongst young farmers to help young farmers challenge their behaviours and change their attitude to farm safety.

This is all with a view to prevention of accidents as well as dealing with them properly in the unfortunate event of them happening.

The Farm Safety Foundation brought along two specialist health and safety consultants from Risk Management Services Ltd and, as well as indoor classroom-based activities, four common accident scenes were set up outside around the farm, using life size bean-bodies.

These outdoors activities took place in extremely wet and cold weather conditions – but as with farming, there was no stopping for bad weather.
