Madam,
Having read the letter from the lady at Penrhyndeudraeth (‘It’s ridiculous that those who really need service can’t get to it’) my thoughts flew instantly to her, and to the 20 others in such an unenviable situation.
Apparently, the ‘bus replacement’ is not classed as a taxi. Presumably, because of the new contract, the ‘replacement’ stops at bus stops only!
The writer states a taxi would be £15 per trip. What would that take on a regular basis from anyone’s pension?
Being able to walk to any bus stop would be a blessing and this dilemma would not loom so large to the people concerned.
Who is going to address this situation, or are these people supposed to stay holed up, with no solution?
Recently I had occasion to write to Arriva Trains Wales (before they gave up the trains contract, prior to 14 October). Passengers alighting at Machynlleth, from Aberystwyth, just after 6pm had a whole hour to wait for a connection to Tywyn and, further on, to Pwllheli. The waiting room and ticket office closed at 6.15pm.
I asked where were the passengers supposed to go, or where were any staff to care about them?
Worse was to follow. One drizzly, chilly evening, three passengers were told to alight at Dovey Junction (with just the platform there), with a promise from the conductor of a train along within 10 minutes. It didn’t arrive for another 50 minutes!
Why are some people so at the behest of such thoughtless rulings and why does every day life have to be so hard?
Yours etc,
Jill Baxter, Abergynolwyn, Tywyn.
