TO TRY and ensure the future of the King George V Playing Fields in Newcastle Emlyn, a small committee is trying its best to get community support and people on board.

The committee has organised a clean-up day this Saturday in preparation for the first-ever Party in the Park event, and locals are being urged to support the event.

“Support is crucial,” said committee secretary Vince Jones.

“We came from a stage where the park was derelict and an unsavoury place where a small committee found needles and things, but we’ve turned it around and we were fortunate to have a group of people who worked hard to obtain grants and funding.

“We need to get people together. We don’t receive any central funding, although Newcastle Emlyn Circle have been very generous.

“We are truly reliant on volunteers to paint, to strim and trim, and to grease the facilities there and to create a strong workforce.

“This will all be in preparation for the Party in the Park – a celebration we are organising on Saturday, 17 September.”
