Madam,

Aberystwyth Cycle Festival is bidding to bag a massive cash boost from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative.

Tesco teamed up with Groundwork to launch its community funding scheme, which sees grants of up to £4,000, up to £2,000 and £1,000 raised from carrier bag sales in Tesco stores awarded to local community projects.

Three groups in every Tesco region have been shortlisted to receive the cash award and shoppers are being invited to head along to Tesco stores to vote for who they think should take away the top grant. AberCycleFest is one of the groups on the shortlist.

AberCycleFest is a week-long annual celebration of cycling in Aberystwyth, entertaining over 10,000 cyclists and spectators across 10 events. Now in its ninth year, it has become one of the most prominent festivals in mid Wales, attracting world and Olympic cycling champions to the town on the late May bank holiday weekend.

With the award, we hope to increase our provision of cycling activities and entertainment in Aberystwyth town centre for primary and secondary schoolchildren during festival week, allowing more than 500 children to take part and hopefully catch the sport and exercise bug on two wheels”.

Voting is open in all Tesco stores throughout January and February. Customers will cast their vote using a token given to them at the check-out in store each time they shop.
