A LONG-SERVING Newcastle Emlyn swimming coach has made a splash in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Hazel Davies, secretary as well as coach of the Emlyn Flyers, has been awarded a British Empire Medal for services to the club and to the community in Newcastle Emlyn,
“It was a shock when I found out about a month ago,” the mum-of-three told the Cambrian News. “It was unexpected, undeserved and I feel very embarrassed about it, to be quite honest!
“I’ve been involved with the Flyers ever since the club’s inception way back in 1981. I became involved when my kids were swimming and just seem to have kept on going.
“I’ve always been a sporty person and swimming is just one of my passions.”
David Jones, postmaster at Felinfach, also receives a BEM for services to the community in rural west Wales.
“I’m proud, privileged and also excited that my 31 years’ service with the Post Office have been recognised in this way,” he said.
Mr Jones, who is responsible for a community postal service covering 14 villages in mid and north Ceredigion, added: “There are some changes to the service every year, but this year has seen more changes than I can remember.”
He is married to Delyth and the couple have three children.
