AN Aberystwyth woman is raising money to buy Christmas gifts for elderly people who may be lonely this festive period.­

Tammy Davies said she is working alongside staff at Age Cymru Ceredigion, who will identify elderly people who are the most susceptible to loneliness to bring them some much-needed festive cheer.

But Tammy said money is desperately needed to be able to fill the boxes, and is calling on people across Ceredigion to donate a small amount of money to ensure the loneliest people in the county receive a gift.

“I am raising money to create gift sets which are for elderly people who live alone and have no family or support,” Tammy told the Cambrian­ News this week. “Research has shown that once in receipt of a gift or hamper these people will often reach out and seek further help and support.

“This is a real issue in our county with well over a 1,000 elderly people who have nobody to look out for them. I am working alongside Age Concern Ceredigion who are going to place these gift sets for me and ensure they go to the right people.

“So far I have 21 gift sets on order and was really hoping to get 50, if not more. All I ask is that people donate £20 for a complete gift set, or any contribution would help.”
