The council tax rates for second homes are under review, which I understand is due to coastal villages having high numbers of second homes which are empty for a good proportion of the year.

I agree premium rates should be applied in those areas.

However, I have a very small flat inland where there are not many second homes and feel that the 50 per cent increase that is charged to second-home properties is the correct rate.

Gwynedd Council needs to apply variable rates to different areas, as happens in Cornwall, where there are a high number of second homes in St Ives which are charged 100 per cent on the council tax and where rates of 50 per cent are applied to second homes in not so popular areas.

I come to my flat each month and am committed to investing in the local area and am part of the community. There are lots of properties up for sale which local people can’t afford due to unemployment or low wages. Why is Gwynedd Council not investing in better employment opportunities for local residents to be able to able to buy their own homes rather than penalising people who are committed in investing in the local community?
