“TEMPORARY” traffic lights have once again become a permanent feature of a stretch of the A44 between Aberystwyth and Llangurig.
The lights at Pantmawr, approximately four miles west of Llangurig, returned just months after the Welsh Government completed works to replace damaged vehicle barriers and repair the supporting embankment in spring last year, following a crash more than two years earlier in November 2013.
Motorists are once again complaining of long delays at the lights, which one Aberystwyth resident said had been there for “at least” six months.
Phillip Moseley, who commutes to Newtown from Aberystwyth every day, said: “The lights have been there for at least six months and cause ridiculous queues during rush hour.
“They are timed so if you just miss it you have to wait what seems like days before they change again.
“When I went past this morning, someone jumped the lights and had to swerve between the cones to avoid an oncoming lorry.
“There is no sign of anything being done since they have been put up.
“I have been travelling this road every day for nearly three years.
“It was only when the Cambrian News published the piece about the lights last time that something got done about it.”
Mr Moseley added that he hadn’t once seen any workers at the lights since they were introduced.
A Welsh Government spokesperson said: “Following further damage to the vehicle restraint barrier which occurred after the initial repair, it has been necessary to have temporary traffic lights in place for safety reasons.
“Designs on repairing and improving the barrier are progressing and work is set to commence in the new year.”
