A GRATEFUL daughter has offered her heartfelt thanks to Wales Air Ambulance paramedics and Dolgellau Hospital staff after their tireless work gave her an extra two-and-a-half years with her mother.

Fiona Jones, from Trawsfynydd, and her family “have no doubt” that they would have lost her mother, Pat Christie, in 2013 after the then 71-year-old was struck down by a van in Eldon Square, Dolgellau, had it not been for the swift and decisive action of the helimedics.

“If the Wales Air Ambulance medics had not got there as quickly as they did she would not have survived, I’ve absolutely no doubt,” said Fiona.

Following weeks of surgery Mrs Christie was cared for in Dolgellau Hospital where she was treated with “exceptional love and care”.

She added: “The extra time we had with mum was difficult, but it was precious.

“Without the medical team’s hard work we wouldn’t have had that time together.”

The family of Mrs Christie, who died after a battle with cancer in October 2015, asked for donations in lieu of flowers at the 73-year-old’s funeral and split the money received between the hospital and the helicopter charity, with both receiving nearly £275.
