Madam,

Rarely, if ever, have I penned a letter to the editor, but a recent occurrence has made me want to correspond on behalf of the residents of Cefn Esgair, Llanbadarn Fawr, Aberystwyth to offer our most grateful thanks to 12-year-old Ioan Mabbut of Lluest Newydd, Llanbadarn Fawr, who took it upon himself to carry out, on his own initiative and on his own, a ‘debris pick’ of the Cefn Esgair estate and its abutting stream on Sunday, 28 July.

Ioan does not live on the estate, but still he took it upon himself to tidy the whole area up.

The recent trend of throwing litter wherever an individual chooses to has recently hit Cefn Esgair – with cans, plastic bottles, fast-food wrappers, particularly, and other debris scattering the estate road.

Ioan’s singular actions must be applauded, and we at Cefn Esgair most sincerely thank him.
