AN ABERYSTWYTH man has thanked his lucky stars he was involved in a car crash - after a routine scan afterwards revealed he had three brain tumours.

After previously beating lung cancer, Ian Williamson, 62, was involved in a crash on the A44 at Lovesgrove while on his way to see his GP because of a chest infection.

Mr Williamson told the Cambrian News this week there must be “someone up there looking after me” after a routine brain scan following the crash revealed the presence of three tumours.

“The airbag went off and the people at Bronglais scanned my head and found I had brain tumours,” said Mr Williamson. “The real silver lining of this is that, had I not had the crash, I wouldn’t have known. There must be someone up there looking after me.”

Mr Williamson was discharged from hospital last Thursday, and is now recovering at home while he awaits the call to go down to the Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff.

“The three tumours are not operable so they can only do radiotherapy,” he added.

“But that’s cool. Having finally got a piece of paper saying I have a brain, I am keen to keep it.”
