Madam,

Could I briefly thank the handful of electors who had the clarity of vision to vote Labour in last week’s Llanbadarn Fawr byelection.

Despite the hall of distorting mirrors that is the Brexit process, and the constant downpour of poisonous misrepresentation from the media, they took a longerterm view. As the pressures of global politics and economics mount, and as the disasters and collapses of the climate and extinction crises escalate, we shall more and more need a society that is democratic, caring and resilient. We may not be able to control what the future will throw at us, but we can at least agree to stick together and pool our resources.

That is the meaning of our party’s slogan – “For the many, not the few”.

Yours etc, Richard Layton, Labour byelection candidate for Llanbadarn Fawr, Sulien ward.
